ENGLISH II - Mann
Facing Adversity Essay
Reflection:
|
For the first unit of English II the class evaluated the way in which people respond to adversity. We analyzed reactions in books such as Night and the movie Life is Beautiful.
After evaluating, the class was asked to find one common response between the books and evaluate how this response might have helped the characters persevere. If I were to do this again I would have tried to include a counter argument or maybe more detail. I also would have liked to spend more time developing my thoughts. I liked the premise of the paper, but I am not too pleased with the execution. |
Scary Story Project
Reflection:My 100% honest opinion of the story featured to the right is that I hate it. I think that that my scary story is probably one of the worst pieces of writing I have ever produced.
The writing feels forced and because I had a three page restriction I couldn't develop the characters enough to make Casey's actions feel justified. It lost all its unsettling factor when the confusion kicks in. Questions such as: Why is she lashing out like this? It was only one diner; what's wrong with this chick? If I were to do this project I would probably change everything, scrap the whole idea and start over with an entirely new plot. However, I did enjoy reading the scary stories in class. |

College Research Pennant Project
Reflection:
What I learned from this project: Don't go to Dartmouth unless you have a lot of money. Dartmouth is an Ivy league school in New Hampshire with an insanely high tuition rate. The more I looked into it, the more I realized it wasn't the school for me. The school does have an extensive list of clubs and sports teams, but if you are going to work that hard for the grades and scores, looking into other ivy league schools such as Harvard or Yale.
Julius Caesar Debate
|
Reflection:Admittedly, my partner and I did not make the strongest case for our resolve.
It was difficult to put together a case within the confines of personal privacy and finding evidence that specifically examples how dangerous the IoT is regarding personal privacy. Even more difficult was finding a way to say that privacy invasions are more threatening than saving lives in developing countries can help. However, we did win the debate in class which was nice. It was fun to practice debating with our opponents and I enjoyed all of this assignment. |
AOIT Sophomore Year Joint Programming Project
|
Reflection1. For this project we were tasked with creating an application in Microsoft Visual Studios, using the programming language Visual Basic, that would calculate population equations with data the user enters. Our layout started with a screen that welcomed the user (image 7 above), from there the user was taken to a window where they would enter the data required and select the operation needed (images 5 and 3 above). After the answer was calculated, it would display in a pop-up window (Images 1,2,4,6,8,9,10, and 11 above). Picture 12 is an image of the code written for the crude birth rate calculation.
2. If I were to do this project again I would change the layout so that we didn't have to add tedious code for graying out the unavailable options if I were to do this project again. 3. What I enjoyed this project was getting to work with other people to create an application. It was challenging and exciting to use everything we had learned in VB to create this app. Personally, I enjoyed that it resembled some of my father's work projects where he was not handed a step-by-step sheet of instructions to complete this project. Like in math, the challenge was presented to my team and it was up to us, our knowledge, and our ability to google things we did not know yet, to figure out a user-friendly way to calculate and present information. |
